Genealogy Research Ettiquette

Very helpful information:

 Asking For Help

There are plenty of people who are willing to help you get to the next step. It's good research karma ;-) There are message boards on,,, and, just to name a few. These are searchable for years and may have boards dedicated to surnames or places. There are also pages and groups on Facebook:, Genealogy Tip of the Day, Ancestorville, and others that cater to specific ancestry like Swedish Heart Genealogy and AfriGeneas. These are only searchable with the "Find" function on your computer and your post may be pushed down the page in a matter of hours. Both have their uses and it may be helpful to put your post in a couple of different places.

Hi, my family surname is collins i researched to the best if my knowledge my family history and believe that I am part of the community. My grandfather was birn in 1930 and 1932 Glenn W. Collins. His father name was Henry Collins & Mothers name is Rosilda or Roseilda Collins. I could not find any information on my grandfather so i had to go by my great aunt Parthene Collins. My grandfathers famiky is frim Isom, Ky and have a family plot still there in Lechner (sp) County. All that is left of my family is my maternal aunt Brenda Collins. Please help me resolve this as i can only recall my grandfather saying his mother was half cherokee but no records of that exsist.
